Successful language learning starts with choosing the right teacher. A good teacher not only makes a connection with you, but also establishes a connection between you and the subject to be studied.
Let me introduce myself…
My name is Mia and I was born and raised in Thailand. I live in Northern Thailand in the beautiful city of Chiang Mai.
I have been teaching Thai to students from all over the world for more than 6 years. I started teaching Thai in the US while working and studying English there. I was invited to teach Thai at the local community college and taught there from 2006 to 2010. After 4 years of experience teaching Thai in the class room I started teaching Thai online, via Skype. In the last 2 years I have taught over 1,200 hours of Thai language lessons via Skype.
Teaching is my passion. I love teaching foreigners the beautiful Thai language and helping them gain a better understanding of the wonderful Thai culture, traditions, values, and way of life. Learning a new language gives students access to a whole new world and makes them aware of all the (subtle) differences between languages and cultures. Seeing my students’ knowledge of and fascination with the Thai language and culture grow is my ultimate satisfaction.
During the course of the lessons, the student-teacher relationship often develops into friendship. I have had students from all over the world visit me in Chiang Mai and have been told many times that they loved my hospitality. Meeting people from all corners of the world is a wonderful bonus of teaching Thai and plays an important role in keeping me motivated and full of enthusiasm to teach.
Learning a language is not just about vocabulary and grammar, it’s about (differences in) culture too. Because I have lived and worked in the US for 5 years, I speak English fluently and I understand Western culture. My understanding of how Westerners think and why Thai act in a certain way makes me the perfect bridge between two worlds.
The fact that I have lived abroad and have studied a second language myself helps me explain important differences between languages and cultures to my students. My understanding is based on real life experiences and not just on knowledge from books. I will not only be able to explain how to say or do something, but also why to say or do things in a certain way.
When you study a language it is important to find a teacher who will help you achieve your goals quickly by giving you the support, feedback, and motivation you need.
I will adapt your Thai language lessons to meet your specific needs, keeping the lessons fun, diverse, and interesting. You will be pleasantly surprised to learn how fast you are able to push your Thai to the next level.
“Time flies when I have lessons. I just wish I had more time.”
